People in Precision: April – The Foundation of Stacking & Pinning

In the complex choreography of PCB manufacturing, the first step on the drill floor dictates the final accuracy. This month, we highlight the essential Stacking and Pinning process and the expertise of our Impex team.

While Stacking and Pinning might not always be in the high-tech spotlight, it is the bedrock of production stability. It is here that laminated PCBs are aligned and secured into stable "books" before they ever reach the spindles. This process creates the necessary stack-up by layering the entry foil to stabilize the drill bit, the production panels for high-volume efficiency, and the backup board to protect the machine table and prevent exit-side burrs.

It is a common misconception that the machine can fix everything. While a advanced drilling machine can compensate for variations in pin positioning, a standard drilling machine cannot compensate for the issues that occur when a stack is improperly pinned. Ensuring mechanical stability and perfect vertical alignment from the very beginning is the only way to guarantee that every hole hits its target across the entire stack.

A special thank you to our Impex Engineering Team! Your expertise in the "first mile" of the drilling process ensures that every subsequent step runs with German precision. You are the silent guardians of our registration and hole quality.

Thank you, Impex, for holding everything together!
